Astrivis and 3D Fit Revolutionize Custom Insoles with Smartphone 3D Scanning Technology

Zürich, Switzerland – 14.05.2025Astrivis and 3DFit are proud to announce their collaboration on a groundbreaking new solution that brings custom 3D-printed insoles to the comfort of your home. Powered by Astrivis’s cutting-edge mobile 3D scanning technology, this partnership enables users to create precise 3D foot models using only a smartphone, eliminating the need for in-store visits or specialized equipment.

In just one month, the two teams went from concept to MVP, demonstrating the agility and innovation that define both companies. This rapid progress enabled early beta testing and marks a significant milestone in making personalized orthotics more accessible and scalable.

With this system, users can easily scan their feet at home in under one minute. By following simple instructions in the Bodyscan3D app: selecting the “Sole” scanning mode, positioning the foot correctly, and filming it from different angles, a highly detailed 3D model of the plantar surface is generated. A well-lit room and help from a second person enhance the scanning results.

These digital models are then used by 3D Fit to design and produce fully customized insoles using 3D printing. The process combines comfort, convenience, and clinical-grade precision, all from home.

Behind the Innovation: Q&A with Reto Rindlisbacher, Co-Founder of 3DFIT

Q: Can you briefly introduce 3DFIt and what motivated you to explore mobile 3D scanning?

Reto: I’m the co-owner of 3DFIT, where we focus on developing digital supply chains in footwear. Our goal has always been to make custom footwear more accessible. Previously, we relied on third-party 3D scanners in our retail store, which limited reach. Mobile 3D scanning offered a chance to take our business online, reduce friction, and open up new digital channels.

Q: How did Astrivis’ mobile scanning technology fit into your workflow?

Reto: The integration was smooth. Our workflow remains the same—except now the scanning happens outside the store. It’s fast, easy to learn, and the customer can do it themselves, which saves us both time and cost.

Q: What surprised you most during the process?

Reto: How quickly it worked. The learning curve was minimal, and the scan quality was impressive right out of the gate.

Q: How did the insoles produced from mobile scans compare to those made using traditional scanners?

Reto: The results exceeded our expectations. The insoles made from mobile scans are indistinguishable from those made using our in-store 3D scanners. Accuracy and fit were both excellent.

Q: Have you seen any early impact from using the mobile solution?

Reto: It’s still early to quantify, but the big win is the ability to serve customers remotely. We’re no longer limited by geography or store visits.

Q: What’s next for your use of 3D scanning and printing?

Reto: We’re planning to expand scanning beyond feet to design custom shoe lasts, ski boots, and even full-body scans for tailored fashion. This is just the beginning.

Q: What would make this tech even more powerful for you, and would you recommend it to others?

Reto: Direct integration with our online store would be a big plus. But even now, we’d definitely recommend it, mobile scanning is a perfect fit for the future of personalized, digital footwear solutions.
